Cupholder Console

One of the most common complaints about the first-generation Honda Insight is the factory cupholders. If you’ve installed an aftermarket display or simply want to carry a drink larger than a small coffee, the stock setup quickly becomes impractical.

I developed this custom console to address that shortcoming without compromising the interior’s aesthetic. It’s modeled to emulate the OEM piece to ensure a precise fit around the parking brake and center tunnel, and to maintain the Insight’s design language, with the same subtle angles that make the original trim look clean and cohesive.

The part is printed in dark grey ABS, selected for its durability and visual compatibility with the factory plastics. While the color isn’t an exact match, it blends in well once installed. While it uses a two-piece design for strength and printability, the seam is clean and almost looks like a factory joint once assembled. It mounts together with countersunk screws into molded bosses that hold everything tightly in place.

Functionally, this console significantly increases storage and usability. The dual cupholders accommodate large drinks – including an XL Big Gulp – without risk of tipping over. Between them, a recessed slot holds a phone securely in landscape orientation.
